Hello friends,
I recently bought a VAZ 2107 and I’m facing an issue. The car randomly shuts off while driving, especially when I hit the brakes or shift to neutral.

I’ve already checked the fuel filter and had the carburetor cleaned, but the problem still remains.
Has anyone else experienced this issue? Or can someone suggest what else I should check?

Thank you!

Sure! Here's a friendly and technically helpful response that fits well in a forum discussion:

Hi and welcome to the world of VAZ! 😊

This issue is actually pretty common on carbureted 2107s, especially if you're running the stock Solex or DAAZ carb. Since you already cleaned the carb and checked the fuel filter, here are some other things you should definitely check:

1. Idle Speed & Mixture Screw (Adjustment)

When you brake or shift to neutral, RPMs naturally drop. If your idle speed is set too low, the engine may stall.
➡️ Try increasing idle RPM to around 850–900 with a warm engine.

Also, check the fuel/air mixture screw — too lean = stalls on load drops.

2. Vacuum Leaks

Cracks in vacuum hoses or gasket leaks between the carb and intake manifold can cause unstable idle.
Spray some carb cleaner around the base and hoses while engine is idling — if RPM changes, you've found a leak.

3. Brake Booster Leak

Since the problem happens when braking, your vacuum brake booster might be leaking air into the intake.
➡️ Unplug the booster vacuum hose and plug it temporarily — test if stalling stops.

4. Weak Ignition Spark

A weak or intermittent spark could also be the culprit, especially when RPMs drop.
Check:

  • Spark plugs

  • Wires

  • Coil

  • Ignition module
Make sure all grounds (especially engine-to-chassis) are clean and tight.

5. Carburetor Float or Needle Valve

Even if the carb was cleaned, if the float level is incorrect or the needle valve sticks — fuel delivery can be unstable.
Check the float height with a gauge or ruler.

🛠 Bonus Tip:

Install a tachometer (if not already) — helps spot when idle drops too low or RPMs dip unexpectedly.

Let us know what you find — we’ll help you step by step if needed. Lots of us have been through this with our Ladas! 😄

Good luck and enjoy the 2107 — she's a beauty when tuned right!
